Monarch Bank's Commercial Real Estate Finance Group (CREF), formerly known as Monarch Capital, LLC, focuses on the loan and deposit needs of professional commercial real estate owners and developers. Through its collaboration with Bethesda, Md.-based Walker & Dunlop, LLC, the CREF group will provide enhanced commercial real estate banking services to its clients.

Monarch's CREF Group of experienced bankers offers the benefits of local competitive commercial real estate financing solutions – including construction, mini-permanent, and permanent loans across all commercial real estate property types with the benefit of a local relationship with Monarch Bank. The Monarch CREF Group will be able to leverage the longstanding relationships Walker & Dunlop has developed with lenders, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, life insurance companies, CBMS lenders, banks, REITS and pension funds.

Jeremy R. Starkey
Jeremy R. Starkey has over 15 years of commercial and real estate banking experience, serving clients in Hampton Roads as well as throughout Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region with both regional and community banks.

Starkey joined Monarch in 2004 and assumed the role of Managing Director of Monarch Capital, LLC in early 2007. He is a 1994 graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and a 1998 graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia. He is also a 2001 graduate of the Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia.

His past community service includes leadership positions with the American Heart Association – Tidewater Chapter, JMU Duke Club Board of Directors, the United Way of South Hampton Roads, and the Rotary Club of Norfolk where is a Past-President. He is a 2004 recipient of the Top 40 Under 40 Award from Inside Business. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE), and is a member of the EV Williams Center for Real Estate and Economic Development at Old Dominion University, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Chas Wright
Chas Wright joined the Monarch family in 2009. He serves as Senior Vice President for Monarch Bank, specializing in all aspects of commercial real estate financing. He currently manages a portfolio that includes some of the most sophisticated and respected real estate firms in Hampton Roads.

Wright has over 10 years of commercial banking experience with national and community banks. Prior to joining Monarch he worked for nearly 5 years at Wachovia Bank and managed a $500MM+ commercial real estate portfolio in Hampton Roads. During this time he helped clients with a diverse range of commercial real estate financing transactions including construction loans, term loans, letters of credit, mezzanine debt, derivatives, permanent debt placements, and tax credit equity investments. The majority of commercial properties he has financed are within the $2MM - $50MM range, with some highlights including the Wells Fargo Center in Norfolk, Belmont at Freemason Apts in Norfolk, East Beach in Norfolk, and Edinburgh Retail Center in Chesapeake.

He is a 1995 graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 2003 earned his MBA degree from Old Dominion University. His past community service includes serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer and Investment Officer for the Old Dominion Alumni Association, Board of Directors for the Hampton Roads Technology Council, and Board for the Sertoma Club of Norfolk. He currently serves on the Future Generations Board for CHKD, is a member of the Urban Land Institute, and a member of the Hampton Roads Association of Commercial Real Estate.
